The escalation of manufacturing industries relies on the development of the machine tool industries. Development of newer materials demands higher capabilities for machine tools. Hence, the mechanical design of the machine tool must be improved. Design based on bionics is the one of the best and it is the most successful way to improve the machine tool structures. Bionics is the study of nature where the designers solve human problems by imaging the structure of nature. For many years, designers from all fields have always looked to nature as a source of inspiration for design and source of innovation. Most of the engineers are looking the nature as problem solver, as the nature has the biggest experience in finding solutions for the environment than anything else. The design of the machine tool structures are also taken from the nature as a source because it provides solutions efficiently and economically. This paper presents an overview of bionic structures used in machine tools. Also, the bionic structures are more successful in the fields like automobiles, aircrafts etc. Keywords

Machine tool structures made of non conventional materials have seen tremendous progress in the manufacturing industry. Conventional material such as cast iron is now being replaced with materials having superior properties. This paper tries to review the development of alternative materials for the machine tool structures over the last three decades that were found to have beneficial properties than the conventional cast iron. To support the higher speeds of modern machine tools built to increase productivity and at the same time maintain the surface finish of the work pieces, the requirement of alternatives to cast iron have emerged. The properties of the alternative materials are summarized and compared with cast iron. Keywords

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) offers high quality weld deposit that becomes suitable for higher alloy contents with low rate of deposition. Hot wire GTAW is a further development of the GTAW process which is used in industries that need high quality welding with high productivity. It is essential to have an automated welding machine in pump industries to increase productivity and quality which can also make the work easier for a welder. GTAW welding with hot wire for circumferential seam welding of motor body is a major development for pump industries which is required for good quality welding and mass production of the pump motor body. So it has been planned and designed a Special Purpose Welding Machine for Circumferential Seam Welding of Motor Body which will be a major challenge for all pump industries with latest technologies at low cost with respect to the current market scenario and also the customer requirements by analyzing and implementing their needs. Keywords
